Our company had the pleasure of working with Theberge Homes in Ottawa on the first phase of an exciting new project called the Huntclub Towns this year. The 67 contemporary towns and terrace homes located at 3700 Downpatrick Road, Gloucester were recently completed and available for purchase from $219,000 to $409,900.
The exterior features modern and sleek with dramatic angled rooflines, wood and metal accents, and elegant brick veneers. Inside, you find innovative floor plans, modern designs and top of the line features like the six appliances we supplied for each unit.
Members of our team were on-site completing the installation of appliances this summer. Units were outfitted with GE ENERGY STAR 17.5 Cu.Ft. Stainless Steel Refrigerators and the GE ENERGY STAR Stainless Steel Interior Dishwashers. We use many ENERGY STAR certified appliances — from refrigerators and microwaves to dishwashers and clothing dryers — in our projects because they are superior quality products, and top of their class for energy performance. We feel good knowing our choices will save our clients money, and reduce their impact on the environment.
The kitchens were completed with the GE 30” Stainless Steel Free Standing, Flat-top, Electric Range — the one-piece upswept cooktop, is easy to clean, and it allows you see the hot surface indicator light and ribbon heating elements with ease; and the GE 1.6 Cu.Ft. Stainless Steel Over-the-Range Microwave Oven — with 10 Power Levels which offers the flexibility to accurately cook any meal, from frozen entrees to refrigerated casserole dishes and a nonstick interior that facilitates easier cleanup of spills.
The GE Unitized Space-Maker Washer and Electric Dryer was the perfect solution for the Huntclub Towns in-suite laundry. They are engineered for quiet operation and the stacked design ensures that unit space is maximized for living.
There are more phases coming for this development. We can’t wait to share pictures of the next phases in the coming months.

At Custom Home Interiors, we consider it our responsibility to act as responsible global citizens and do our part to ensure that we reduce the environmental impact of the work we do and products we create, and also to actively promote brands and partners that practice sustainable development and environmental protection.
FUN FACT: Did you know that Earth Day is the largest secular observance in the world? Celebrated by more than a billion people every year, it is a day of action that changes human behavior and provokes policy changes.
As environmental issues become increasingly urgent, the task at hand can seem overwhelming and insurmountable. While we wait on governments to make sweeping policy changes, there are choices we make as consumers on a daily basis that on an individual scale might not seem like much, but en masse can make a substantial impact on the world we live in.
Programs like the ENERGY STAR Initiative make it easy to identify high-efficiency products on the market in Canada and the United States, including major appliances, room air conditioners and some heating and ventilating equipment. Certified products must meet strict technical specifications for energy performance, and save energy without compromising performance in any way.
We use many ENERGY STAR certified Whirlpool and KitchenAid appliances — from dishwashers and clothing dryers, to refrigerators and microwaves — in our projects because they are superior quality products, and top of their class for energy performance. We feel good knowing our choices will save our clients money, and reduce their impact on the environment.
FUN FACT: Today’s refrigerators are designed with better door seals, improved insulation and more efficient compressors. They use at least 70 percent less energy than models produced in 1990.
While that may be true, North Americans still have the biggest refrigerators in the world. They became a status symbol of sorts in the 80’s and used to store a week’s worth of food for families of all sizes. The sad truth is that refrigerators consume more energy than any other household appliance because they run day and night. Reducing the size of everyone’s fridge alone can impact global warming. Imagine what we could do by reducing the size of all of our household appliances.
We choose many of their LED lighting products in our work because in addition to being beautifully designed, they save on energy and money and avoid using hazardous substances like mercury.
FUN FACT: The average Canadian home has 30 light bulbs. That provides a lot of opportunities for consumers to take advantage of the latest technologies and models available.
We believe that supporting quality Canadian furniture manufacturers is the best way to ensure that we deliver well-made, long-lasting products. The less often you have to replace your furniture, the more money you save in the long-run. It is definitely worth paying a bit more upfront and it will keep more items out of landfills.
The Canadian manufacturers we work with have great environmental initiatives:
Canadel hand-assembles and hand-finishes furniture made of locally-grown solid birch. All of their cardboard packaging is made from recycled fibers and they distill and reuse all paint residues in their production.
Bermex also uses North American birch exclusively in the manufacturing of their high quality solid wood casual and formal dining furniture, bars and stools. For every tree used in the manufacture of their products, they plant a new one. Bermex understands the crucial role of trees in their business.
Trica uses recycled steel, aluminium and plastics to build their furniture, which require less processing and resources. The paints they use are free of lead and volatile organic compounds that have been linked to cancer and birth defects. And, all of their products can be disassembled and recycled.
For us, supporting green companies and initiatives is just good business. We believe that in doing so, we are able to offer superior products that give our business and clients a competitive advantage, while dramatically reducing our collective carbon footprint.
